Valdosta - Lowndes Regional Crime Laboratory
The Valdosta-Lowndes Regional Crime Laboratory’s fundamental values are Integrity, Quality, Service, and Justice. The laboratory is dedicated to assisting law enforcement agencies in the investigation of criminal offenses by providing a professional examination of evidentiary material. The laboratory provides experienced forensic personnel to examine the evidence submitted by various law enforcement agencies through the utilization of the most up-to-date scientific equipment, technologies, and methodologies. Expert witness testimony is provided by trained laboratory professionals as required.
In April 2015, the Valdosta-Lowndes Regional Crime Laboratory became the first locally operated crime laboratory ever in Georgia to obtain laboratory accreditation through the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB-International). The assessment process was extremely difficult. The process included a rigorous evaluation of laboratory procedures, training, and equipment by five out-of-state assessors.
In February 2019, the Valdosta-Lowndes Regional Crime Laboratory obtained accreditation issued by ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) by fulfilling the requirements ISO/IEC 17025 and ANAB Forensic Testing & Calibration AR 3125 in the field of Forensic Testing. ANAB is the longest-established provider of accreditation based on ISO standards for forensic agencies in the United States.
Laboratory accreditation ensures the Valdosta-Lowndes Regional Crime Laboratory is following professional, standardized, and validated laboratory practices in the area of evidence analysis while at the same time providing fast service to local agencies in South Georgia.
