Pinevale Elementary School to celebrate International Walk to School Day
Pinevale Elementary School will be joining schools from around the world to celebrate International Walk to School Day on October 10, 2018.
Approximately 75 students from Pinevale Elementary School will walk to school along with parents, teachers and community leaders. In the U.S., International Walk to School Day is expected to include more than 4,000 events across all 50 states. Walkers from around the U.S. will join children and adults in 40 countries around the world.
Walk to School events work to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion, concern for the environment and building connections between families, schools and the broader community.
This event is being organized by Greater Lowndes Coalition Highway Safety Director, Dr. Ronnie Mathis, Pinevale Elementary School Principal, Mr. Royce Thomas, the Valdosta Fire Department and the Valdosta Police Department.
If you would like to participate in the event, please meet at the Mildred Hunter Center located at 509 South Fry Street, at 7:00 a.m. The walk will begin at 7:10 a.m.
If you live too far from your child's school to walk, you can drive part of the distance, then park and walk the rest of the way, or just get them out after school for a walk in your neighborhood.
If you have any questions, please contact, Dr. Ronnie Mathis at (220) 630-3109 or visit www.walkbiketoschool.org.
