Electrical Inspector
Description
Overview
This position is responsible for performing building inspections to ensure compliance with relevant electrical codes and ordinances.
- Performs commercial and residential project inspections to ensure compliance with current electrical codes.
- Reviews plans for construction, modification, and renovation of commercial buildings; advises contractors and owners of changes required for code compliance.
- Notifies contractors, engineer, architects, subcontractors and property owners of code violations and discusses possible remedies.
- Answers telephone inquiries from builders and contractors and schedules inspections.
- Completes all reports associated with the inspection process, including a daily inspection status report.
- Performs mobile home inspections.
- Performs swimming pool inspections.
- Performs other types of inspections as required.
- Performs related duties.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of electric construction techniques, materials and tools.
- Knowledge of all relevant building codes and ordinances.
- Knowledge of construction techniques and contracting procedures.
- Knowledge of the geography of the city and the county.
- Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Skill in the operation of computers and other standard office equipment.
- Skill in planning, organization, and decision making.
- Skill in the inspection of new and existing structure construction.
- Skill in the review of construction plans.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain the appropriate state certification for the type of inspection(s) conducted.
