City of Valdosta Prepares for Extremely Cold Weather Conditions
The City of Valdosta is taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety of citizens and employees during the extreme cold weather forecasted for the area.
City Office Closures
City offices will be closed beginning today at 4 pm and on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, for all non-essential employees. Essential personnel will continue to operate as needed to ensure critical city functions are maintained.
Traffic Advisory
A traffic advisory will go into effect beginning at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, and will remain in place until 6:00 AM on Thursday, January 23, 2025. Citizens are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during this time. The lobby of the police department will be closed from midnight tonight until 6 a.m. tomorrow morning. Travel should be limited to:
- Work-related purposes
- Medical needs
- Obtaining essential supplies
The advisory is issued to ensure safety due to the possibility of icy road conditions. Please stay off the roads as much as possible to reduce the risk of accidents.
Business Operations
Local businesses have the discretion to determine whether they will remain open during this period. Citizens are encouraged to contact businesses directly for updated hours of operation.
City Services Adjustments
- Customer Service: While the City’s online customer service portal will remain operational, the drive-through and lobby will be closed on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
- Valdosta On-Demand (VIA): VIA services will be paused starting at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, and will resume operations as weather conditions improve.
- Municipal Court: The Municipal Court will be closed on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, and will resume normal operations on Thursday, January 23, 2025, as previously scheduled.
- Garbage/Yard Trash Services: Garbage and yard trash services will not be picked up on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. Services will resume on Thursday, January 23, 2025, and all collections will be pushed back by one day for the remainder of the week.
