GDOT Announces Mega Load Machine Rotor through S. Georgia
Georgia Dept. of Transportation--A mega load machine rotor will be passing through middle and south Georgia this week as it travels from Interstate 95 at the Georgia/South Carolina state line to the Florida state line on I-75.
The 19-axle rig will be traveling overnight beginning Tuesday evening and is expected to reach its destination shortly after midnight Wednesday. It is headed for Cocoa, Fla. The truck will be accompanied by law enforcement and civilian vehicles.
The weight is 559,000 pounds and the trailer/rig is 18 feet wide, 14 feet tall and 250 feet long. The Georgia Department of Transportation categorizes a transport as a super load when it exceeds 150,000 pounds in weight, 16 feet in height or 16 feet 2 inches in width. The carrier must receive a super load permit from the Department before transport.
Interstates impacted will be I-95, I-16 west and I-75 south. The load will also utilize state routes. It should be in southwest Georgia on Tuesday night. The night travel should reduce the impact on traffic, but motorists are encouraged to avoid the route if possible. Otherwise, please be patient and do not try and pass the convoy.
