City of Valdosta Urges Residents in Mobile Homes and Substandard Housing to Seek Shelter Ahead of Hurricane Helene

As Hurricane Helene approaches, the City of Valdosta is urging residents who live in substandard housing or a mobile home to relocate to a more sustainable shelter immediately. High winds from the hurricane pose a significant risk to these types of housing structures.

Several shelters are now open to provide a safe haven for those in need:

VSU Continuing Education Building

  • 903 N. Patterson St., Valdosta
  • Opens at 2 p.m. and is pet-friendly. Residents should bring essential items such as medicine, food, water, and pet supplies, including a crate, leash, and vaccination records for pets.

Park Avenue Church

  • Corner of E. Park Ave. & Patterson St., Valdosta
  • Opens at 2 p.m. This location is ideal for individuals who require electricity for medical equipment.

Corinth Baptist Church

  • 4089 Corinth Rd., Lake Park
  • Opens at 4 p.m. 

Residents are encouraged to bring essential items, including bedding, food, water, and personal comfort items, when heading to shelters.
