Lift Station Operator
Description
This position is responsible for the repair and maintenance of sewer lift stations.
Overview
- Inspects, maintains and repairs wastewater lift stations to prevent sanitary sewer overflow and to maintain proper efficiencies.
- Researches, locates and acquires parts and equipment as needed.
- Changes motors; replaces motor wiring.
- Maintains and inspects control panel box components.
- Repairs pumps; cleans valves.
- Cleans bar screens; replaces belts; greases bearings; maintains level control.
- Mows grass around station.
- Performs related duties.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of wastewater collection system operation and maintenance principles.
- Knowledge of lift station inspection, repair and maintenance principles.
- Knowledge of the hazards inherent to sewer maintenance work and the safety measures used to mitigate those hazards.
- Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in the maintenance of lift station equipment.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
- Skill in the use of lift station maintenance tools and equipment.
- Skill in the preparation required reports.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Obtain and maintain a State of Georgia Wastewater Collection System Operator license.
Obtain and maintain a State of Georgia Water/Wastewater Plant Maintenance Technologist - Class III license.
