City of Valdosta Celebrates Reconstruction of Mrs. Nelson's Home Through CDBG Program

The City of Valdosta's Neighborhood Development Division proudly held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, June 7, 2024, for Mrs. Nelson's reconstructed home, made possible through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.

Since 2004, the City of Valdosta has actively participated in the CDBG program, which is authorized under Title 1 of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974. This program has been instrumental in bringing about significant improvements in housing within our community. The CDBG funding has enabled the Neighborhood Development Department to assist citizens in upgrading their properties to meet current codes and standards, fostering a safer and more sustainable living environment.

Anetra Riley, Neighborhood Development and Community Protection Manager, expressed her enthusiasm for the program’s impact, stating, "The Community Development Block Grant program has been a cornerstone in our efforts to provide sustainable housing solutions to our residents. Mrs. Nelson's home reconstruction is a testament to what we can achieve through collective effort and community support. We are proud to see our community thrive and grow stronger through these initiatives."

The ribbon-cutting ceremony featured remarks from city officials, including Councilwoman Sandra Tooley, who presented her with the key to her home. Attendees had the opportunity to tour the newly reconstructed home.

The event underscored the City's ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all its residents through targeted development programs and community partnerships.
