The City of Valdosta Celebrates Georgia Cities Week with Return of Touch-A-Truck Event
The City of Valdosta is pleased to announce the successful return of its Touch-A-Truck event, which took place on April 26, 2024, as part of the statewide celebration of Georgia Cities Week. This highly anticipated event provided children and families with a unique opportunity to interact with various vehicles utilized by city departments daily.
Public Works Administrator Larry Ogden emphasized the educational value of the event, stating, "The Touch-A-Truck event offers a hands-on experience for our community's youth to learn about the vital role that these vehicles play in maintaining our city infrastructure. It's important for students to understand the machinery and equipment that support our daily lives, and events like this provide an engaging platform for such education."
Administrator Coordinator Dominique Nevlous added, "Touch-A-Truck is not only about fun; it's about fostering a sense of community and instilling in our children a curiosity about the world around them. By exposing them to the inner workings of city operations in a hands-on manner, we are nurturing future leaders who will appreciate and contribute to the development of our city."
Children had the opportunity to explore a range of vehicles, including a motor grader, street sweeper, and vac-truck, courtesy of the Utilities and Engineering departments. The event garnered enthusiastic participation from both children and adults alike, fostering a deeper appreciation for the essential services provided by the City of Valdosta.
The city extends its gratitude to all the departments and individuals involved in making the Public Works department’s Touch-A-Truck event a resounding success, contributing to the celebration of Georgia Cities Week and the enrichment of our community.
