VFD Responds to Structure Fire at New Hudson Street

Friday, March 8, 2024, at approximately 4:45 AM the Valdosta Fire Department responded to the report of a structure fire at 505 New Hudson Street. The first fire unit arrived within four minutes to find smoke and flames coming from the kitchen area of a single-family residence.

Fire crews immediately initiated operations to contain conditions, quickly bringing the fire under control. A total of fourteen fire personnel were on-site, working diligently to ensure the safety of all occupants and surrounding properties.

Fortunately, all occupants of the building were able to evacuate safely, with no reported injuries. However, due to the extent of the damage, nine individuals have been temporarily displaced and are currently being accommodated by their families and receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

The Valdosta Police Department and South Georgia Medical Center provided valuable assistance during on-scene operations.

Following a thorough investigation, the cause of the fire was determined to be unattended cooking, underscoring the importance of practicing caution and mindfulness in the kitchen.
