City of Valdosta & VLPRA to Cut Ribbon on New Gym Floor
The City of Valdosta & the Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks & Recreation Authority invite the public to a ribbon cutting for a major gym renovation at the Mildred Hunter Community Center. The ribbon cutting is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 13th at the Mildred Hunter Community Center located at 509 South Fry Street.
The ceremony will celebrate the Center’s brand-new basketball court floor. The Center’s gym originally had a rubber surface court installed when the building was constructed in 2002. It had reached its functional limit and the City of Valdosta allocated funds to replace the floor with a hardwood surface which modernizes the space and has a much longer lifespan.
The project was funded through money provided by the American Rescue Plan Act. The City of Valdosta allocated $245,000 of the federal funds to replace the Mildred Hunter Center basketball court’s floor and to replace lighting in the gymnasium behind VLPRA’s administrative office.
