VFD Responds to Structure Fire

On Sunday, December 31, 2023, at approximately 1:54 p.m., Valdosta Fire Department was dispatched to the report of a structure fire with smoke and fire coming from the attic of an apartment building located at 1400 Iola Drive. The first fire unit arrived on scene within three minutes and confirmed that there was smoke visible from the roof of the two-story apartment building. Valdosta PD, already on scene, had evacuated all the occupants from the apartments as fire crews began searching for the fire. After laddering the building, fire department personnel located the fire on the roof. Fire cause determination confirmed that fireworks caused the fire. Valdosta Fire Department would like to remind residents of the importance of fire safety when around fireworks, when setting them off, and being aware of where the fireworks may land.

There were no injuries reported.
