Demarcus Marshall Represents Valdosta on National APWA

Demarcus Marshall, City of Valdosta's Public Works Superintendent, was recently selected to the American Public Works Association's (APWA) Solid Waste Management Committee (SWMC) for a two-year term, beginning August 27, 2016. This is the first time that the City of Valdosta has been represented on the SWMC.

The purpose of the SWMC is to serve as a center of expertise for APWA on matters related to solid waste operations, collections and recycling issues in public works. The committee develops and promotes environmentally sound, cost effective and efficient solid waste management policies and programs for APWA members by reviewing the latest technologies, practices, regulations and legislation in the field and providing opportunities to exchange information.

"The City of Valdosta is proud that Demarcus has been selected for this national committee," said Public Works Director Richard Hardy. "Demarcus will bring a wealth of knowledge to the committee, gain insight on new opportunities available from our federal agencies, and participate in public works policy development. We look forward to his ability to network with other public works professionals from across the nation and to bring back some best practices to help the Valdosta Public Works Department pursue national accreditation."

Membership to the national SWMC belongs to only a handful of public works personnel from across the country.
