The City of Valdosta will participate in the 2016 observance of National Community Development Week, March 28 – April 1, with a variety of events that highlight the city's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. Read more.
March 28 | NCDW Proclamation
The observance of National Community Development Week in Valdosta will kickoff with Mayor John Gayle issuing a proclamation supporting the CDBG program, at 11 a.m.
March 28 | GLPC Meets
The Greater Lowndes Planning Commission (GLPC) will hold its regularly scheduled meeting, on Monday, March 28, at 5:30 p.m., at the South Health District Administration Office, 325 W. Savannah Avenue. Call 229-259-3563 for details.
March 29 | Lane Closure on St. Augustine Road Due for Force Main Project
The City of Valdosta Utilities Department will be performing road construction on St. Augustine Road, from Tuesday, March 29, at 7 p.m., through Wednesday, March 30, at 7 p.m., weather permitting. Periodic lane closure between Lankford Drive and Hickory Drive will be necessary. This work was rescheduled due to last week's rain.
March 29 | Ribbon on CDBG Reconstructed Myrtle Street Home
The City will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for a newly reconstructed home on 907 Myrtle Street, located in the city's Designated Revitalization Areas, at 10 a.m. The reconstructed home was built utilizing CDBG funding.
March 29 | SEEDS for Success, "Choosing the Right Seed"
Hosted in partnership with Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce, this workshop is part of the Valdosta-Lowndes Business University and designed specifically for anyone interested in turning their business idea into a reality. The workshop will be held in the Valdosta City Hall Annex Multi-Purpose Room, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch is provided for pre-registered individuals. Hosted in partnership with Habitat for Humanity, this workshop will provide practical home-buying tips and resources for citizens interested in purchasing a home. The workshop is free and open to all citizens, but pre-registration is required. The class will meet in the Valdosta City Hall Annex Multi-Purpose Room, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lunch is provided for pre-registered individuals. Call 229-671-3617.
March 31 | Knowing Your Fair Housing Rights Workshop
WFN Consulting, from Marietta, Georgia, will host a workshop for all interested citizens in the Valdosta City Hall Annex, Multi-Purpose Room. In an effort to attract more citizens to important fair housing information, this session will be offered at two times. A mid-day session will be held from 12 to 1:30 p.m., which includes a lunch for all pre-registered individuals. The evening session will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., which includes light snacks for all pre-registered individuals. Call 229-671-3617 to pre-register for either session.
March 31 | VPD Citizens Police Academy in Week #3
Citizens enrolled in the Valdosta Police Academy are in week #3 of an eight-week program to get a better understanding of the inner workings of a modern law enforcement agency. The class is free and is one of three citizens information programs designed to engage and educate citizens on their local government.
April 1 | First Friday in Downtown Valdosta
The popular First Friday event will feature live music, dining specials, shopping and more of the fun that the community expects on the first Friday of every month, beginning at 6 p.m., in beautiful downtown Valdosta. Visit www.valdostamainstreet.com.

Comprehensive Plan Update
The next workshop for the Joint 2016 Lowndes County and Cities of Dasher, Hahira, Lake Park, Remerton, and Valdosta Comprehensive Plan Update will be on Monday, April 4, from 5-7 p.m. at the Southern Georgia Regional Commission, located at 327 W.
