Valdosta City Council Approves Request to Rename Forrest Street to Barack Obama Boulevard
During the Thursday, July 22nd Council meeting, Valdosta City Council Members approved the request to change the name of Forrest Street to Barack Obama Boulevard.
The name change will not go into effect for 90 days per the Valdosta City Ordinance No. 2019-2. During this 90-day period, residents and business owners are advised to have their mail changed over to the new street name as soon as possible so that the mail service is uninterrupted. It will also be their responsibility to contact utility providers, electricity providers, cable providers, and telephone providers to ensure that they have this information as well. The effective date of this street name change will be November 1, 2021, at which time street signs will be installed and mapping services will be updated.
The portion of Forrest Street being renamed to Barrack Obama Blvd. extends from its southern end at the intersection of South Forrest Street and East Martin Luther King Drive, to North Forrest Street just past Inner Perimeter Road.
The City of Valdosta does not want anyone to be inconvenienced during the transition of the street name change. For questions, please call the City Clerk at (229) 259-3500 or the Engineering Department at (229) 259-3530.
