CDBG Program

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program is authorized under Title 1 of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974. The City of Valdosta has participated in the CDBG program since 2004, where our community has benefitted from numerous improvements in the areas of housing, public facilities, improvement activities and infrastructure.

Valdosta currently participates as an Entitlement Community, which means that we automatically receive an allotment of funds each year based on federal formula data. CDBG is a very flexible program and the funds can be used in a multitude of activities as long as they meet a national objective and are eligible activities.

Development of vibrant and sustainable urban communities is the primary objective of the CDBG program. These communities are achieved using CDBG by providing the following, principally to and for persons of low and moderate income:

  • Decent housing;
  • A suitable living environment; and
  • Expanded economic opportunities
