VPD Reports Outstanding 2024 Crime Clearance Rate and Crime Reduction

The Valdosta Police Department (VPD) is proud to announce its 2024 annual statistics, highlighting significant reductions in crime and exceptional performance in crime clearance rates that exceed national averages.
 
2024 YTD Crime Update
  • Crime at the end of 2024 is 5% lower compared to the end of 2023.
  • The total for 2024 is 2% lower than the average overall crime total for the past seven years.
“Our officers’ hard work and dedication to public safety are reflected in these outstanding results,” stated Police Chief Leslie Manahan. “We are proud to see meaningful reductions in crime while maintaining clearance rates that far surpass national benchmarks.”
 
Exceptional Clearance Rates
VPD’s clearance rates significantly exceed the national average (2020 data) in the following categories:
  • Homicide: 73% (National Average: 54.4%)  *This clearance rate does not include the 12/30/24 homicide, in which there are arrest warrants, and there is an active search for the offender
  • Rape: 75% (National Average: 30.6%)
  • Robbery: 70% (National Average: 28.8%)
  • Aggravated Assault: 74% (National Average: 46.4%)
  • Burglary: 23% (National Average: 14%)
  • Motor Vehicle Theft: 31% (National Average: 12.3%)

  • Calls for Service: 66,155
  • Arrests: 2,641
  • Accidents Reported: 3,299
  • Investigation Cases Handled: 2,207
  • Items Tested at Valdosta-Lowndes Regional Crime Lab (VLRCL): 4,816
  • Citations Issued: 5,306
  • Training Hours Completed: 6,181
