VPD Hosts Ribbon Cutting for Citizens Against Violence Hqtrs
On Tuesday, July 26, at 10 a.m., the Valdosta Police Department will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open the "Citizens Against Violence" Headquarters, a collaborative effort between the Valdosta Housing Authority, Valdosta Police Department and Citizens of Valdosta. The headquarters, a former house located at 624 Jane Street, will be used as a headquarters for the Citizens Against Violence Campaign, a program created by Pastor J.D. Martin and the Valdosta Police Department.
The program was initiated in 2015 and includes educating the public on alternatives versus the use of violence, education of youth to avoid violence, and a way to build a bridge with the community and law enforcement. The Valdosta Housing Authority will also be funding one Valdosta Police Officer in the fall of 2016 to act as a Housing Officer for the Ora Lee West and Hudson Dockett Complexes. Both the officer and Martin will have offices in the headquarters, and community events will be held at the building to include events for the youth.
