VFD Responds to Structure Fire on E. Gordon Street
On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at approximately 10:01 AM, the Valdosta Fire Department responded to the report of a structure fire at 802 East Gordon Street. The first fire unit arrived within four minutes to find heavy smoke and flames showing from a single-family residence. Seventeen firefighters responded to the scene and quickly brought the fire under control.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that three dogs still in the residence. Firefighters executed an aggressive search of the residence to locate the three dogs. Firefighters located and removed the three dogs. Unfortunately, one dog passed away at the scene due to the severity of the conditions. A second dog was treated on scene and released to the owner and the third dog was transported to a veterinarian’s office for further medical evaluation and treatment.
Two occupants were displaced because of the fire and are currently receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the cause of the fire may be attributed to a faulty electric scooter. The Valdosta Police Department and South Georgia Health EMS provided invaluable support and assistance on the scene, contributing to the efficient management of the situation.
