VFD Opens Registration for 2024 Citizens Fire Academy
The Valdosta Fire Department (VFD) is excited to announce that registration is now open for the 2024 Citizens Fire Academy, a unique program designed to educate and engage the community with the inner workings of the VFD. The academy will run from September 10, 2024, through October 29, 2024, with classes held every Tuesday from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the VFD Regional Training Facility, located at 137 Blanchard Street, Valdosta, GA 31601.
Since its inception in 2014, the VFD Citizens Fire Academy has successfully provided citizens and the business community with valuable insights into the VFD's services. This program increases fire and life-safety awareness and fosters a strong partnership between the VFD and community members.
Participants in the Citizens Fire Academy will have the rare opportunity to go behind the scenes and gain a comprehensive understanding of the department's operations. The program includes:
- Demonstrations: Search and rescue, extrication, and fire prevention.
- Hands-On Experiences: Ride-A-Long Program, live burn, and high-angle rescue.
- Equipment Familiarization: How firefighters' protective equipment works.
- Facility Visits: Tours of the 911 Emergency Center and VFD Training Center.
- CPR Skills Training: All participants will receive training in CPR.
This academy is an excellent opportunity for citizens to learn more about fire safety, emergency response, and the critical services that VFD provides to the community. It is open to all interested individuals who wish to better understand the fire department's role and enhance their safety and preparedness.
Spaces are limited, so early registration is encouraged. The deadline to register is August 22, 2024, at 5:00 PM. To register, Click Here.
