VFD Hosts 4th Annual 9/11 5k Memorial Run
The Valdosta Fire Department proudly announces its 4th annual 9/11 5k Memorial Run, scheduled to take place on September 7th, 2024. This solemn event commemorates the lives lost and honors the courageous first responders who sacrificed everything on September 11, 2001.
The 9/11 5k Memorial Run aims to bring the community together in remembrance and solidarity. Participants are encouraged to join in the patriotic spirit by dressing in red, white, and blue and decorating the racecourse with signs of support.
"We are deeply honored to host the 4th annual 9/11 5k Memorial Run," stated Lieutenant Melissa Roe. "This event serves as a tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of the heroes of September 11th, and it is our duty to ensure that their memory lives on."
The race will commence with a heartfelt speech by Mayor Matheson at 7:45 a.m., followed by the starting gun at 8 a.m. sharp. The course, a fast out-and-back route, will begin at 120 N Patterson Street in Downtown Valdosta and pass by Valdosta State University.
Early bird registration is open until midnight on August 25th, 2024, with an entry fee of $25. Late registration will be available until 3 pm on September 6th for $30, and participants can also register on race day for $35. First Responders are eligible for a discounted entry fee of $10 as a token of appreciation for their service.
In the true spirit of giving back, 100% of the race proceeds will be donated to Valor Service Dogs Inc., an organization dedicated to providing trained service dogs to veterans in need.
