Valdosta Sets Millage Rate for Fiscal Year 2022
The Valdosta Mayor and City Council set the Fiscal Year 2022 millage rate for Valdosta citizens at the rollback rate of 7.796 mills at the Aug. 19 City Council meeting. The previous millage rate for FY21 was 7.974.
The City of Valdosta has a history of maintaining a conservative millage rate. The city has increased the millage rate only four times in the last 25 years while the city reduced the millage rate 12 times in that same period.
The new millage rate will fund the FY 2022 General Fund Budget that Mayor and Council adopted in June 2021.
Information received from the Lowndes County Tax Assessors and Tax Commissioners offices provided to the city reveals that the city's tax digest increased by $39,496,680 or 2.66%.
"This is helpful to our community because they should see a slight reduction on their tax bill,” said City Manager Mark Barber. “The millage rate number is derived from our tax digest for all the properties owned in the city. What’s exciting for us is that our tax digest grew enough for us to make this slight reduction. We are making progress; we have more folks moving here as well as businesses moving in and expanding."
