Valdosta Neighborhood Development Hosts City-Wide Bulk Trash Amnesty Day

The City of Valdosta Neighborhood Development Division will host a City-Wide Bulk Trash Amnesty Day at specific locations only, in conjunction with the nationally-recognized Make-A-Difference Day, on Saturday, Oct. 22, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. This event, which is being provided through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, will allow Valdosta residents to dispose of unwanted household items and other bulky trash items at no cost.

Residents who bring their trash for disposal must bring a copy of their City of Valdosta Utilities Statement and a photo ID as proof of Valdosta residency. Valdosta residents with cars, trucks and standard-sized trailers will be allowed only one trip to one of the following drop-off locations, where city employees and volunteers will be available to help residents unload.

NOTE: Hazardous materials, yard waste and tires will NOT be accepted at the event. Unwanted electronics will also not be accepted at the event; however, citizens are encouraged to dispose of them properly at the Fall Electronics Recycling Event, on Saturday, Nov. 12.

Zone 1: Greater Pleasant Temple Baptist Church Lot, at 309 Cherry Street

Zone 2: Scott Park Parking Lot, at Old Statenville Road and Continental Drive

Zone 3: City Hall Annex Parking Lot, at Lee Street and Smithland Drive

Zone 4: Valdosta Public Works Department, Inside Fenced Yard at 1015 Myrtle Street

To emphasize the importance of keeping our neighborhoods clean and free of bulk trash, the Neighborhood Development Division partnered with Keep Lowndes-Valdosta Beautiful (KLVB), who has been hosting the local Make-A-Difference Day and other community cleanup projects for over a decade. On Oct. 22, volunteers and city employees will observe the national event by picking up garbage along city streets, adjacent to the City-Wide Bulk Trash Amnesty Day locations.

We're pleased to have KLVB partner with Neighborhood Development on this city-wide clean-up effort," said Neighborhood Development Manager Vanassa Flucas. " By participating in this bi-annual event, residents are doing their part to help clean up our city in an affordable and convenient manner."
