Utility Bill Update: Delays Due to Hurricane Helene

The City of Valdosta would like to address concerns regarding recent utility bills and provide clarity on the situation. Here’s what you need to know:

Why Are Bills Higher This Month?
Following Hurricane Helene on September 26th, our meter reading schedule was disrupted, causing delays. As a result, billing cycles have been extended. This means bills may reflect more days of usage than usual—not higher rates or increased daily consumption.

What Billing Cycles Are Affected?
Many residents are receiving bills covering a 6-week billing cycle instead of the usual 4 weeks.
Moving forward, some residents may see shorter billing cycles as we work to return to our regular monthly schedule.
We anticipate being fully caught up by January.

How Can I Verify My Usage?
Your bill includes a usage by day breakdown. This allows you to compare daily water consumption during this billing period to prior ones, confirming that daily rates have not changed. If you need help locating or understanding this information, please contact our team.

What If I Can’t Afford My Bill?
We understand this unexpected higher bill may be difficult for some households. If you are unable to pay the full amount:
