Lake Park Road Box Culvert Replacement - Project Update

The Lake Park Road concrete box culvert was selected for replacement due to structural deterioration during its lifespan.

The project was advertised and awarded in the Spring of 2022, with funding allocated in the Stormwater Utility Division budget for fiscal year 2023 (July 2022 - June 2023). The intent was to have the construction occur during the Valdosta School System's Summer Break of 2023.

Due to supply chain issues and fabrication delays, construction was not started until June 2023, with anticipated completion in mid-August. Watermain replacement was completed in July, and a concrete foundation was installed. When the box culvert precast sections were delivered in mid-July, the fabricator had incorrectly formed the flanges that interconnect the sections. This necessitated additional on-site modifications of the pre-fabricated culvert sections by the subcontractor/fabricator, further delaying the installation. In August, hurricane Idalia impacted our community, causing construction delays on all infrastructure projects for several weeks.

It is anticipated that all work will be completed by mid-November 2023.
