City of Valdosta to Honor Veterans with Annual Headstone Cleaning

As Veteran's Day approaches, the City of Valdosta warmly invites the community to participate in a meaningful act of remembrance and service. On Saturday, November 2nd, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, the City’s Public Works Department will be hosting a special event at Sunset Hill Cemetery dedicated to cleaning and preserving the headstones of our nation’s veterans.

This is a wonderful opportunity to honor the brave men and women who have selflessly served our country by ensuring that their final resting places are treated with the care and respect they deserve.

Volunteers will join together in a shared mission to pay tribute to our veterans, with each cleaned headstone serving as a testament to the community’s deep and enduring gratitude. This event is about more than just maintaining the cemetery—it’s about coming together as a community to recognize the sacrifices made by our veterans and ensuring that their legacies live on. Every small effort, no matter how seemingly simple, contributes to preserving their memory for future generations.

We encourage everyone to participate and invite friends, family, and neighbors to join in this noble cause. Mark your calendars for November 2nd, and plan to arrive at Sunset Hill Cemetery by 9:00 AM.

Volunteers should dress comfortably for outdoor work, including wearing closed-toe shoes, and come prepared to approach the day with a positive spirit and a willingness to make a difference. Let’s unite as a community this Veteran's Day to show our respect and gratitude in a profound and lasting way.
