Welder/Small Engine Mechanic
Description
Overview
This position is responsible for the repair and maintenance of small engine equipment, for making welding repairs, and for fabricating parts.
- Fabricates parts for a variety of vehicles, tools and equipment.
- Makes welding repairs to strengthen equipment parts on claw trucks, garbage trucks and other vehicles and equipment.
- Repairs commercial dumpsters; installs lids and lock assemblies; removes and replaces rusty or worn areas.
- Removes and replaces damaged or rusted parts on a variety of equipment and tools.
- Maintains, services and repairs lawn mowers and other small engine equipment; changes oil; replaces blades; replaces belts and gaskets.
- Designs, fabricates and installs specialty parts on mowers, trucks and other equipment.
- Researches and gathers information related to the maintenance and repair of a variety of tools and equipment.
- Performs related duties.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment utilized in the repair and maintenance small engine equipment.
- Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures, and relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of welding techniques, tools, principles and practices.
- Knowledge of parts fabrication principles.
- Knowledge of work safety principles.
- Skill in cutting and reshaping metals in the fabrication of parts.
- Skill in the operation of a variety of vehicles and equipment.
- Skill in problem solving.
- Skill in prioritizing and planning.
- Skill in interpersonal relations.
- Skill in oral and written communication
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
