Overview
This position operates heavy equipment in the repair and maintenance of rights-of-way and other property and in the collection and transport of refuse
- Operates a street sweeper to clean city streets.
- Operates a backhoe, front-end loader, and other heavy equipment.
- Operates and tractor and bush hog.
- Operates a front-end loader, rear-loader, or side-loader along a predetermined route to collect refuse.
- Inspects dumpsters for repair or maintenance needs and makes report to supervisor.
- Operates a roll-off truck to deliver and pick-up roll-off containers.
- Operates a knuckle-boom truck to collect yard waste, recyclable materials, and other items along a pre-determined route.
- Operates a dump truck and trailer.
- Maintains radio contact with dispatchers to send and receive information.
- Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment; performs pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Assists in traffic control at work sites.
- Performs related duties.
Qualifications
- Requires a valid CDL
- Knowledge of the techniques, equipment, and supplies used in street and right-of-way maintenance.
- Knowledge of city and departmental safety policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the geography of the city, including street names and locations.
- Skill in the operation of assigned vehicles, trucks and heavy equipment.
- Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
- Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
