Traffic Technician I
Description
Overview
This position performs technical duties in assisting in the installation, maintenance and repair of traffic control devices.
- Fabricates signs for all city departments.
- Erects guide, warning, regulatory and street signs.
- Inspects existing signs and replaces damaged or defective signs.
- Installs reflectors on roads.
- Installs or repairs pavement markings.
- Paints curbs and sign posts; stripes roadways.
- Clears brush at intersections and from around signs.
- Installs thermo stop bars, crosswalks, and lane lines.
- Installs and uninstalls traffic counters.
- Installs detour and safe work zone barricades, cones and signs.
- Performs related duties.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of the Standard Highway Signs Manual.
- Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
- Knowledge of city policies and procedures related to the manufacture, maintenance and installation of signs and pavement markings,
- Knowledge of work zone safety principles.
- Skill in the operation of hand and power tools.
- Skill in the operation and maintenance of an assigned vehicle.
- Skill in the installation and maintenance of signs and pavement markings.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
