City of Valdosta Announces Emergency Curfew

In response to the imminent threat of Hurricane Helene, Mayor Scott Matheson has declared a State of Local Emergency for the City of Valdosta. This declaration activates the City’s Code of Ordinances, Chapter 30 - Civil Emergencies, including Article II: State of Emergency Curfew and Article III: Emergency Management.

A citywide curfew will be enforced from 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 26th, until sunrise on Friday, September 27th. The curfew applies to all residents, with exceptions for those traveling to or from work or for medical reasons. The curfew is a critical safety measure designed to protect lives as the storm approaches.

“We are fully prepared to take the necessary steps to keep our community safe,” said Mayor Matheson. “We urge all residents to comply with the curfew and stay off the roads during this period for your own safety and to allow emergency services to operate efficiently.”

The City of Valdosta, in collaboration with Lowndes County Emergency Management, will continue to monitor the storm's path and issue further updates. Residents should follow official city and county communications for the latest information and safety guidelines.

Stay informed, stay safe, and follow the curfew to help protect our community.
