Overview
This position is responsible for the development and delivery of fire and life safety education to the general public.
- Determines strategies for accomplishing Fire and Life Safety Education goals and objectives.
- Designs and develops course materials and lessons for VFD and Life Safety classes.
- Manages and coordinates a variety of Life Safety Education programs.
- Allocates resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
- Ensures the class content and material supports program goals and objectives; establishes policies and procedures for the delivery of Fire and Life Safety Education.
- Supports on-scene operations as a victim's advocate and liaison with the American Red Cross to ensure that fire victims receive appropriate support and assistance.
- Develops, leads or participates in collaborative partnerships and coalitions.
- Provides support to city media relations and public information staff in matters related to Fire and Life Safety Education.
- Maintains and updates website content.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of programs by collecting and analyzing relevant statistics and data; analyzes current and future trends.
- Prepares and submits budget proposals and administers approved funds.
- Prepares a variety of regular and special reports.
- Attends seminars, conferences and workshops.
- Performs related duties.
- The work consists of varied administrative and instructional duties. The volume and variety of programs contributes to the complexity of the position.
- The purpose of this position is to develop and implement Fire and Life Safety Education programs for the public. Successful performance contributes to the the safety of lives and property in the community.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the National Fire Protection Association and the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Act.
- Knowledge of Fire and Life Safety Education.
- Knowledge of child and adult learning theories.
- Knowledge of curriculum development principles and practices.
- Knowledge of risk assessment principles.
- Knowledge of budget management principles.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skill in the development and delivery of educational materials to varied audiences.
- Skill in the development of written materials, pamphlets and brochures.
- Skill in providing service to victims of fire.
- Skill in interpersonal relations.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
