The City of Valdosta operates a centralized wastewater laboratory located at the Mud Creek WWTP. This state-of-the-art facility is operated by state certified laboratory analysts with over 60 years of combined experience.
In addition to regular process control testing for both of the City's wastewater treatment plants, our laboratory performs analytical testing for regulatory compliance and industrial source control purposes.
Regular analyses is performed on the water quality of local rivers, lakes, streams, and discharges from industries. Our lab analysts run a full spectrum of tests while maintaining strict Quality Assurance Quality Control (QAQC) standards. Analysis is performed according to USEPA accepted procedures and per the most recent edition of Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater. Specific testing includes, but is not limited to Dissolved oxygen (D.O.), pH, Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5), Chemical oxygen demand (COD), Ammonia, Phosphorus, Nitrates, Nitrites, Total Suspended Solids (TSS), Fecal Coliform and Total Residual Chlorine.

The Utilities Department has an active public education program and conducts tours and classes for hundreds of students of all ages at its two wastewater plants, including the centralized laboratory. The plants have frequent visits from the public and various water professionals from all over the Southeast. Persons wishing to view the Mud Creek plant or the centralized laboratory may contact the Mud Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant at 229-333-1855 between 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM to schedule a tour. After hours visits may be arranged by special request.
