Overview

This position performs technical duties in the collection and analysis of field data, the management of GIS data, and in the development of related maps and models.

  • Collects field data using global positioning system (GPS) hardware and software in order to locate and map utility features.
  • Assists in evaluating and planning existing and proposed water and sewer system components.
  • Prepares a variety of regular and special reports.
  • Participates in developing and updating predictive, preventative and condition-based solutions; reviews criteria and participates in monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the water and sewer systems.
  • Reviews system analysis results and develops solutions to remedy inefficiencies.
  • Assists in planning future system expansions.
  • Maintains and edits data in water and sewer models by entering and updating entity information.
  • Assists in organizing, scanning and documenting as-built drawings and construction plans.
  • Assists in the collection of environmental sampling.
  • Performs related duties.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of GPS principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of geographic information system database management principles.
  • Knowledge of work safety principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of the basic principles, practices, equipment and materials used in the construction and maintenance of water and wastewater utilities.
  • Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Knowledge of water and sewer system modeling principles.
  • Skill in the use of a variety of job-specific software programs.
  • Skill in the collection of field data.
  • Skill in preparing written reports and technical maps and drawings.
  • Skill in planning, organization, and decision making.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
